PRE SCHOOL DIVISION – AGES 15 MONTHS TO SIX YEARS
SIDE BY SIDE: AGES 15-36 MONTHS – 30 MINUTES WEEKLY
Share in the fun with your young dancer! Tactile songs and dances help children learn where their bodies are in space, while having the security of a familiar face to help them along. A toddling, crawling, twirling half hour of fun. Dancers and parents should wear comfortable clothing and participate in bare feet or socks. Enrollment for this class is ongoing, and children do not participate in our spring revue.
IMAGINATION STATION: AGES 2-3 – 30 MINUTES WEEKLY
A creative movement class that introduces children to the joy of music and movement. Basic motor skills will be challenged, as we develop rhythm and imagination in an atmosphere of fun. Students will perform one routine in our spring revue.
FIRST STEPS: AGES 3-4 – 45 MINUTES WEEKLY
A wonderful introduction to the basics of tap and ballet technique, geared to develop imagination, rhythm, coordination, social skills and an appreciation of movement and music. Two dances in our spring revue help to develop self-confidence while demonstrating newly learned skills.
HAPPY FEET: AGES 5-6 – 1 HOUR 15 MINUTES WEEKLY
An exciting program of ballet, tap and jazz designed to increase strength, flexibility and confidence as well as developing the skills necessary to succeed academically and artistically. Always a highlight in our spring revue, these dancers perform two routines.
TINY TUMBLERS: AGES 3-6 – 30 MINUTES WEEKLY
In this class students will learn the basics skills necessary for tumbling and acrobatic floor work. The children will work on coordination and balance as well as stretch, strength and flexibility. Tiny Tumblers get to perform one routine in our spring revue.
CHILDREN, TEEN & ADULT DIVISIONS
ALL CLASSES PERFORM IN OUR SPRING REVUE
FANCY FOOTWORK: AGES 7-10 or 10-13 – 2 HOURS WEEKLY
Fancy Footwork is a combination class of Ballet, Tap and Jazz technique held in a two hour time period rather than the usual three. Dancers will perform three routines in our annual spring revue.
BALLET – 1 HOUR 30 MINUTES WEEKLY:
Ballet is the foundation for all dance training, and while it is not required, it is HIGHLY recommended for all students. Dancers will work to develop proper alignment and posture, stretch, strength, flexibility, correct technique, vocabulary and the discipline necessary to progress in this beautiful art form.
POINTE – 1 HOUR 30 MINUTES WEEKLY:
Pointe is a natural continuation of ballet technique that is studied only when a dancer has developed sufficient strength in the feet and legs necessary for this demanding discipline. Students under the age of 10 years are not allowed into this class. Any student taking pointe class must, in addition, take at least one other ballet class weekly.
TAP – 45-60 MINUTES WEEKLY:
This percussive class incorporates tap technique and a variety of music to help develop a strong sense of rhythm, timing and musicality. Elements such as syncopation, improvisation and shading are introduced as the student progresses through each level. Vocabulary and history are included so that the dancer becomes familiar with what is known as the true “American” art form. It is recommended that a jazz or ballet class be taken in addition to tap, to enhance the student’s overall technical development.
JAZZ – 45-60 MINUTES WEEKLY:
Through jazz technique students will increase their stretch, strength, flexibility, rhythm and endurance. A variety of styles including theater dance, funk and hip hop combine with contemporary and traditional music to produce a fast paced and athletic approach to dance training.
CONTEMPORARY/LYRICAL – 45-60 MINUTES WEEKLY:
This form of dance incorporates both ballet and jazz elements to tell a story through movement. Dancers work to increase strength, flexibility, control and balance with the emphasis being placed on developing the emotional or expressive qualities necessary to perform lyrical dance.
HIP HOP – 45-60 MINUTES WEEKLY:
Hip Hop is a fast and upbeat class which begins with both stretch and strengthening exercises. Dancers learn the newest moves as seen from our current pop performers. This is a fun and challenging class and students will increase their flexibility, strength and endurance.
ACROBATICS – 45-60 MINUTES WEEKLY:
Students will increase their strength and flexibility as well as balance and coordination as they learn tumbling and acrobatic skills.
MODERN – 45-60 MINUTES WEEKLY (Technique Only):
This class utilizes the movements of modern dance based on Limon, Graham, Humphrey and Horton techniques. Students gain strength, flexibility and core stability. Improvisation and partnering are used, and as the dancers progress, they are taught choreographic elements which they have the opportunity to explore in group projects.
